I travelled from Bratislava to Vienna by train, to find out more go and check my post about Bratislava: Bratislava – City Guide.
Where to stay:
I booked my accommodation via Airbnb and I stayed in the Leopoldstadt area. The studio was within walking distance to “Nestroyplatz” tube station. The area is very safe and central with good restaurants and supermarkets.
What to visit:
Schönbrunn Palace – I visited the interior of the palace (the imperial summer residence of the Habsburg family) and it’s really worth it, everything is so well decorated. The gardens are free to visit though and you can easily spend half a day here visiting both places.
- Nearest Tube Station: Schönbrunn (U4 Line)
- Price: €13,30 euros (adult). I would recommend buying your tickets online so that you don’t waste your time queuing up at the ticket office (you need to book a day and a time for your visit).

Schlöss Belvedere – Another beautiful palace! This one I didn’t visit the interior of but the access to the gardens is free. It has an enormous fountain just in front of the palace. Perfect to take some really nice pictures.
- Nearest Tube Station: Hauptbahnhof (U1 Line)

After being marveled by these two beautiful palaces I was a bit hungry so I decided to go to Café Schwarzenberg to try one of the most famous dishes, “Wiener Schnitzel“. It is a very thin breaded steak (can be veal or pork) and it is delicious!!!
Stadtpark – This is the biggest park in the city with a statue of the famous Johann Strauss. If the weather is good, why not relax a bit in the park or have a picnic?
- Nearest Tube Station: Stadtpark (U4 line)
Karlskirche – It is a baroque church from 1737 located on the south side of Karlsplatz square. The outside of the nearest tube station is pretty nice so don’t miss it.
- Nearest Tube Station: Karlsplatz (U1, U2, U4 lines).

Hochstrahlbrunnen – a big fountain with water jets that can form a rainbow on sunny days.
- Nearest Tube Station: Karlsplatz (U1, U2, U4 lines).
Vienna Opera – one of the most famous Opera’s houses in the world. It is in the beginning or ending (it depends where you are) of the Kärntner Straße.
- Nearest Tube Station: Karlsplatz (U1, U2, U4 lines). Follow the exit “Oper”.

I stopped at Hotel Sacher to try the famous “Sachertorte”. It is a specific type of chocolate cake, everything is made with chocolate, the dough, the cream and the outside. It is not very sweet though and it costs around 5,30 euros, I am not a big fan of chocolate so it is not my favourite cake in the world. Maybe a chocolate addicted person will love it!!! The Hotel is just behind the Opera House and located in the Kärntner Straße.

I ended my day at Kärntner Straße – the most famous street in Vienna with a lot of well known shops like Rolex, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, etc.
- Opening Times: 9:30h to 20h
- Nearest Tube Station: Karlsplatz (U1, U2, U4 lines) OR Stephansplatz (U1, U3 lines).
